Introduction
The decoration of eggs is an integral part of folk traditions related to Easter. On the other hand, this practice has also emerged as an autonomous art form and ornamental eggs are made, collected or exhibited as works of art independent from the festive occasion.
The museum proudly displays a diverse and rich collection of eggs adorned with folk art motifs. The exhibited artwork primarily originates from Europe, especially the Carpathian basin. Works of local folk artists are shown by regions.
The museum also houses art pieces remarkable in Europe, representing far away cultures, like Israel, China or Indonesia.
The displays are inhabited by folk art and applied artworks of traditional egg motifs.
The goals of the museum are the collection, storage and presentation of these fragile messengers of the past and at the same time the possibility and place for the artists of the future to sceure their works.
